Hamamatsu Science Museum

The Science Museum where a robot guide comes out to meet you!

Hamamatsu Science Museum, located 7 minutes walk from JR Hamamatsu Station, features six separate displays on the themes of nature, space, light, energy, sound and electricity. Here you can enjoy the hard to understand mysteries of science and nature by looking, touching and feeling.
Visit the cutting edge planetarium 'Gemini Star 3', with realistic 360° high-resolution images, for an experience that will take you beyond time and space in a three-dimensional universe. The beautiful, life-like star-studded sky will soothe away your tiredness.

1st floor 'Nature' corner
Here you can experience the mysteries of nature around us, with exhibitions on the local nature of the Enshuu region of Shizuoka Prefecture; a world where everything underfoot has been magnified by 100 times; a micro world viewed through a microscope; a world filled with various eggs; and more.

Center of 2nd floor 'Space' corner
This floor is an imitation of a space station, with a model of the sun located at the heart of the museum and the solar system spreading out through the building.
This corner serves as an introduction to rockets and space stations. You can also take on a quiz about space and listen to stories from astronauts who have actually traveled through space.

2nd floor 'Light' 'Energy' 'Sound' and 'Electronics' corners
This section is separated into four themes with displays such as trick art made using light. What's more, there are displays of machinery and tools that various enterprises and businesses based in Hamamatsu have made specially for the museum, with easy to understand introductions to technology and scientific structures relating to each corner.

3rd floor planetarium 'Tokimekira'

hscm5.jpg The planetarium runs three shows: an original program with live explanations of the starry sky on a theme which changes every two to three months; a regular program where you can enjoy majestic images spread across the whole dome; and a special program aimed more towards adults shown on Friday evenings. Before each program, a presentation is given introducing the constellations which can be seen during each season. After visiting the planetarium, searching the night sky for the constellations that you learned is a great way to end your trip.
