With this event, you'll enjoy a lumberjack tree cutting experience followed by a tasting of wild game meat in the Tenryu Forest, which is a source of great pride for the city of Hamamatsu here in Shizuoka Prefecture.
Tenryu Ward of Hamamatsu City is located about an hour's drive north of JR Hamamatsu Station. 90 percent of the land area is covered with forest, and it features traditional private houses and unchanged picturesque scenery.
A long time ago, the Tenryu River that flow through this area often flooded. As a result, a man-made forest of cedar trees was planted in the surrounding mountains as a means of flood control. This area is designated as one of the three most beautiful man-made forests in Japan.
In the lumberjack tree cutting experience, you will learn about and experience forest thinning. Your guide through the woods will be a lumberjack whose job it is to cut trees while also conveying the importance of the mountains to the public. Dinner will be at Chikusen, one of Japan's most famous wild game restaurants. Here you'll be able to taste fresh game meat such as wild boar or deer that was caught in the mountains by he owner himself.
