Kasuisai
可睡齋 / かすいさい

A historical temple which has a beautiful Japanese garden
A place where you can experience Zen training

Kasuisai is located close to Fukuroi interchange on Tomei highway and has 600 years of history, named by the shogun Ieyasu Tokugawa. It is the best place for Zen training and ordinary people can also experience professional Zazen(sitting in Zen meditation) trial.
Zazen is used to calm down the human instinct, which is influenced by various values. Why don't you experience and feel the real presence of mind separate from the daily bustle of your life?

At Kasuisai, you can experience Shakyo (transcribing a sutra) and Shojin-ryori (vegetarian dish) as well as Zazen trial. You need a reservation for each trial, but the gorgeous Shojin-ryori at Kasuisai is especially recommended. ※Shojin-ryori is a type of cuisine which doesn't use meat and avoids wasting any food as much as possible.
※A reservation has to be made a week beforehand

You can also experience the part of a trainee monk at "Zazenkai (Zen meditation trial) and Shakyokai (transcribing a sutra trial)".

"Kasui lily park" next to Kasuisai is open from the end of May to the beginning of July, so please go visit there, too. The site area is 99000 square meters and there are 150 kinds of lilies from around the world. They are in full bloom all over the park and you can sense the sweet smell of them.
There is a tea room where you can stare at the pond and relax in the park. Why don't you enjoy Japanese flavors such as cold Matcha (powdered green tea) and Anmitsu (mitsumame topped with red bean jam) during the warmth of early summer?

Kasuisai is attractive not only for its solemn atmosphere surrounded by nature, but also for each of its halls. You will be captivated by the colors of flowers in each season painted at Zuiryukaku.
