A Car and Motorcycle Theme Park for the young and old!
Suzuki, one of the major companies representing Hamamatsu, has consistently paid close attention to the lives of consumers since its founding as the Suzuki Loom Works in 1909. Since then, the company has grown to become one of the most major brand names throughout the world. At the Suzuki Plaza museum, the many products created by Suzuki over the years are on display, as well as the company's history, and its current vehicle-making efforts. The route through Suzuki Plaza begins at the reception area on the first floor, then travels to the third floor and then through the second floor, before finishing back on the first floor. The stairways between the floors are designed to appear to be time tunnels, taking you from the present back into time. The theme of the third floor is "The History of Suzuki Manufacturing", while that of the second floor is "Suzuki Creations".
Almost every creatively designed display is translated into English and there is an accompanying English audio guide for nearly all the exhibits. Many visitors are surprised that entry to Suzuki Plaza is free of charge. Visiting the museum requires a reservation prior to arrival, so please be sure to make arrangements in advance.
There are many valuable exhibits and delicate machinery on display. After checking in on the first floor, there is a quick explanation of the notes of caution. We ask for your understanding and cooperation.
The 3rd Floor
After passing through the time tunnel, visitors are greeted with a reproduction of the entrance to the original company. After passing through the entrance, visitors will first see the "vertical pedal-style loom", invented by the Suzuki's first president, Michio Suzuki. (the loom is run on Tuesdays and Wednesdays only). This level also displays other looms that were sold since the company's founding until recently, as well as four and two-wheeled vehicles. There are also instructions of the products, their historical background and the way these products were introduced and used during their respective time periods.
The 2nd Floor
On the second floor, the process of creating a vehicle, from inception to manufacturing and sales is introduced. Details, such as company information and overseas locations are also displayed in a quiz format. In the area where factory processes are introduced, visitors can enjoy watching real footage from the factory in the 3D theater, and view life-size replicas of a production assembly line, creating an experience close to visiting an actual factory. There is also an area that introduces Hamamatsu and the surrounding area, with multiple dioramas featuring the Hamamatsu festival and many other local products.
The 1st Floor
On the first floor, current products sold in the market such as four and two-wheeled vehicles, and outboard motors are on display, and some are interactive and can be tested. Near the entrance there is an elevator as well as refundable coin lockers, so please use them if you have lots of baggage. Visitors can purchase Suzuki goods available as souvenirs that cannot be purchased anywhere else.
